We are delighted to announce that the United Kingdom’s entrant Molly Smitten-Downes will be the headline artist at this year’s London Eurovision Party on 13th April at Café De Paris! Eurovision fans will be smitten with the up-and-coming singer-songwriter’s performance of ‘Children of the Universe’ and UK fans will have the chance to show their support and to wish her good luck in Copenhagen.

Molly grew up in the county of Leicestershire, in the heart of England. As a child Molly would write poems and soon realised they had in fact become song lyrics. Molly studied music at college and in 2008 scored her first UK top ten hit with Raindrops, collaborating with superstar DJ, Sash! In 2012 Molly won best Urban/Pop act in the highly regarded ‘Live and Unsigned’ contest. 2013 brought more success for Molly as her original song ‘Lost Generation’ was awarded ‘Best Song’ at the Best of British Unsigned Music Awards.

The BBC’s Eurovision team discovered Molly through ‘BBC Introducing’, an initiative designed for unsigned acts and artists wanting to get their original tracks heard on BBC Radio. Molly took the challenge of creating a song for the Eurovision Song Contest very seriously, and says the song “needed to be a big concept. It can’t just be a nice song – it’s got to be a little bit anthemic. So I came up with six or seven ideas in the space of 48 hours and this one just stood out.” Hoping that ‘Children of the Universe’ will connect with the whole of Europe, Molly says “It’s about the live performance. It’s got to have some drama. You’ve got to get that arena to feel what you’re singing about and hopefully get them on their feet or inspired somehow.”

Molly’s earliest Eurovision memory was of Gina G (United Kingdom 1996). Molly says “I remember being at my first school disco and practising the moves with all my friends.” Ooh Ah Molly!!
